A
longtime substance abuser, Cho seems to have finally come to grips with "the
monkey" on his back. There has been speculation that his interest in hard
drugs -- heroin in particular -- is waning primarily because its popularity
has diminished among Americans. This paints a fairly unflattering portrait
inasmuch as it suggests that he might be the kind of person who would jeopardize
his own life in the slavish pursuit of hipster trends. In any event, it comes
as good news that he seems to be drying out. We can only hope this will have
a positive effect on his songwriting, which has been slipping in the last
two or three years.
