"I first met Jesus Maria when he was hustling his Hollywood loaf and peddling prescription drugs in Alphabet City in 1972. He stood and stared vacantly at nothing in a soiled pink ballerina tutu with chain-mail armor underneath. He had "Igy" scrawled on his forhead in scarlet lipstick. I approached him and asked him if he was into Iggy Pop's band the Stooges. He looked at me like I just shat on his mother and screamed "Fuck You! My band "Trashy Homo Sparkle" is better!" He pulled an acoustic guitar with one string out of the bushes and screeched an embryonic version of his future Vanilla hit "The New Paved Road". I was impressed by his moxy but certainly didn't want to manage his career.
